Ancona continues to celebrate his heritage as he focuses on holidays observed by Latinos in the United States. From California to New York, with stops in New Mexico, the color and passion of the dance, music, story, and food that make the holiday traditions are displayed in full color photographs. Charming children people the pages along with some not-so-charming adults in grim costumes for El Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead. The book includes Las Posadas, the pre-Christmas holiday that traces the attempts of Mary and Joseph to find lodging; the New Year’s Day celebration, Los Matachines, dancers who “depict the arrival of Christianity in the New World,” and La Fiesta de los Reyes Magos, honoring the Magi, on January 6th. The book is available in English and Spanish editions; both will be welcome additions to holiday collections.”
